PAD120: Debate 101

When I asked students to come to my office last Thursday, most of them didn't even bother. I wait till 2.30pm before clocking the card at 2.45pm. The reason I asked them to come is to brief them as what to do when the debate commence on this Sunday.

Today, as I comfortably watching Legend of the Guardians at brand new TGV cinema in Mesra Mall, I got an sms asking what kind of debate question should they be expecting. My reply was: "Debate question la ... what else."

Well, no matter how I hate to do this, what choice do I have? sigh**

So much for Y-Generation? I think we overrated them - only if you know what I mean.

Cut story short, here some guide for the debate:

BEFORE the debate:
  • There are 6 groups for class AMD1PB - thus, there will be three GOVERNMENT groups and three OPPOSITION groups (hopefully you know what GOVERNMENT and OPPOSITION suppose to do!)
  • Each round will has one GOVERNMENT and one OPPOSITION. As the team positioning themselves well, the motion will be released
  • Once motion is released, each team has 15 minutes to discuss the motion accordingly After 15 minutes, the bell will be rang indicating the debate will commence

DURING the debate:
  • As the debate is unstructured, there will be no specific round. Therefore, when the GOVERNMENT starts the round, the OPPOSITION can at any time PoI (point of information - mencelah) them and vice versa.
  • Not all of PoI should be answered - depending on how each team viewed them [but it surely will add up your marks if you allow and answer it]
  • Time allocated for debate is 10 minutes. After ten minutes, the group will be given 3 minutes to sum up their argument and 2 minutes to present it - (the summary round will start by the OPPOSITION)

AFTER the debate:
The instructor will do the evaluation and the groups will be freed and liberated! Hurrah!!!

As for the question, please don't expect this kind of question:
"Discuss FIVE sources of law."

But, this …
“Unitary System of Government: A Practical Solution for Country’s Development.”

So, what’s next?
Read all the topics listed thoroughly that you’ll talk about it in your dreams. Be prepared.

Let’s the show begins!

The Problem with Written Constitution

Geez, we are not so sure about the problem with the written constitution. Whether the constitution is written or not, it doesn’t matter right ?
For us, the underlying main problem is the constitutionalism. Having written constitution doesn’t mean that your country is systematic enough, and having no written constitution ( unwritten constitution ) also doesn’t mean that your country is in wreak-havoc.
It is just a matter of constitutionalism or not. Am I right ?
Subjectively, we see that there are 3 situations.
1.       Having written constitution – having constitutionalism
2.       Having written constitution – having no constitutionalism
3.       Having no written constitution - ? ( need to ask miss Fisha again lol )
Let’s say there is a country A, and it has the written constitution. Now, at this stake, it depends on the ruler also. The ruler want to follow the constitution or not, it depends.
“should not be taken to mean that if a state has a constitution, it is necessarily committed to the idea of constitutionalism. In a very real sense… every state may be said to have a constitution, since every state has institutions which are at the very least expected to be permanent, and every state has established ways of doing things." But even with a "formal written document labeled 'constitution' which includes the provisions customarily found in such a document, it does not follow that it is committed to constitutionalism. “ ~ David Fellman

Written Constitution ; Right or Wrong

Salam Happy Merdeka Day ! Today we gonna give our opinion regarding the Written Constitution :)

Our constitution is the supreme law of Malaysia. In other words, our constitution is the highest law in Malaysia and the government must obey the constitution. Constitution is divided into two ways which is Written Constitution and Unwritten Constitution. Our country is practising the Written Constitution.

However, there is some problem regarding the Written Constitution. First, not all rules and laws can be written into this constitution in one time. For example, our constitution had mentioned that the council can be dispersed. However, it never mention how the council can be disperse and how to use the power to disperse the council.

Furthermore, the its gives the supreme power to the Chairman of Parliament to shape the Parliament. The 'shape' of the Parliament including the number of the members and how many percent of the members with different races should be involve in the Parliament and this situation can lead to a conflict.

For example, let say if one day the members of the Parliament mostly represented by the Chinese or Indian compared to the Malays and this is not impossible if the right of the Malays as the owner the Malaysian is gone. If our own country is conquered by the boarders, so what is the mean of having the tittle of Constitutional Monarchy?

The history of 13th May which is the race riot had happened when majority of the chairs in Parliament were won by the Chinese. In this case, we think the main factor that cause this event is because the Unwritten Constitution. In our Written Constitutions, its never mentioned how many people from other race either than Malay can join the election.

The character of the good constitution is it can be modified easily in order to satisfy the future needs. However, our constitutional is rigid and cannot be changed easily. If can, its takes difficult procedure and take a long time to be processed.

As we know our constitution was constructed before we achieve independence as one of the conditions to gain our own independence. So is it relevant to use the same constitutions which is was made in 50 years ago now? We know that our country had changed a lot after the independence. As we said just now, the constitutions should satisfy the future needs and represent the peoples voices.

The written constitutions should be comprehensive and futuristic but the one thing that the constitutions should be consider is regarding the Malays right because we think the point of having the constitutions in Malaysia is to maintain the Malay as Malay.

Thank you :)

KOSOVO has been recognized

Assalamualaikum Miss Fisha...

This time we want to give our opinion about KOSOVO has been recognized ..
We think KOSOVO are a nation that is not save and people living in chaotic circumstances. Many war that occured resulted KOSOVO peace. This is caused by a power struggle -the other major power like the U.S and RUSSIA.

The impact - is recognized when the KOSOVO war will not be hit again and people there not suffer anymore. It is good for KOSOVO because KOSOVO has been lived in suffering for a long time. Now, KOSOVO can get right as a independent country like other country. Then, the economy will developed and they no longer have to compete with other great power.

So,we support the recognized of KOSOVO.

That's all our opinion.

LONG LIFE KOSOVO!!!!!!

assalamualaikum everyone.......
our opinion about the independence of kosovo are they have a right to ask their freedom..
they use different of ethnics and religion as the ways to ask the freedom.... as the citizen they use their voice to get the independent from serb... why they need their own country and gov.? this because they have treatened so badly from the serb... the serb use army style to treat them.... as we back to the past about japanese admin our country with cruel.... the global doesn't just to silent... nagasaki and hiroshima were bombed by the america and britian... same like the Kosovo case,,, global have be feel that Kosovo need the freedom.... thats why some country certificate the Kosovo as a independent country....... But, not all country agree with it... such as Russia and Thailand.... they afraid that the Cechnya or the Pattani will separated from them.... they'll fell that they can lost their sovereignty to that area....
as the conclusion, some community will built their own state as their want to be it.... it doesn't care that they've prepare for it or not, as long as the other country approve their state...

Kosovo ; The New Country

Assalamualaikum my lovely lecture ~~~~~~ this is my opinion about kosovo

KOsovo is the one of the country that achieve their freedom and independence with Serbia government without war. Although before they can achieve the victory, all the Kosovo citizens had to face with the cruelty by the Serbia's army.

However, recently, the Kosovo had achieved the independence and this is our review about the freedom. All the people around the world had gave their own opinion and speculations about the freedom ......................

The Kosovo citizen will be happy because they can live their life happily and can do whatever they want as its not break the rules. They can live peace and harmony with their family and friends.

Besides, they can ask their government to fulfill their needs such as school, hospital and other facilities that can made their life more proper. If the conditions will last for many years, it is not possible that Kosovo can be one of the most develop country at Europe.

Their are many talk when Kosovo declared its independenc either it was positive or negative. Even though the Kosovo is the new country at Europe but it was like the whole world can accept the new country.

Thats all. Thank you :D
Sayonara !

kosovo

Kosovo has been inhabited since the Neolitik Era. During the madeaval period, kosovo was the centre of the Serbian empire and saw the construction of many important Serb relagion sites, including many architecturally significant Serbian orthodox movestrial. It was the site of a 14th century battle in which invading OttomanTurks defeated an army led by Serbian Prince Lozar.
After 6years of international administration, kosovo albanian aothorithies continues to press the international community to begin a process to define kosovo's future status.
Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia on February 17,2008.in its declaration of independence, kosovo committed to fulfilling its obligations under the Antisaari Plan, to embrace multi-ethnicty as a fundimental principle of good governance, and to welcome a period of international supervision.

OUR opinion on Kosovo's independence.

After reading other groups' posts, I should say that though informative, their posts are mainly just facts that can be searched on the net instead of opinions. So here is ours.

From Wikipedia,

"Kosovo is a disputed territory in the Balkans. The partially-recognised Republic of Kosovo, a self-declared independent state, has de facto control over most of the territory, with limited control in North Kosovo.[5] Serbia does not recognize the unilateral secession of Kosovo[6] and considers it a United Nations-governed entity within its sovereign territory, the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, according to the 2006 Constitution of Serbia.[7] Metohija is the western part of the overall territory."

Kosovo is a Muslim country in Europe. According to the International Court of Justice, the independence of Kosovo does not violate any law set by the United Nations. Since the majority of its citizens voted to have the independence, their independency is totally valid. This is totally the opposite to AMD1PB/July 2010, in which as opposed to taking votes, Pian used his hair to headbutt his way to being the class rep. True story.

We would like to speak in a religious point of view. Having another Muslim country in Europe is going to help strengthen the Muslims' place in Europe while motivating other Muslim territories to seek independency. Besides, Serbia is a Christian country, therefore having their own governing body will prove to be convenient to Kosovo.

Though Serbia by its own is strongly against this, nothing can be done as the people have spoken. It is reported that Russia is against it too, but Russia is gay so whatever Russia has nothing to do with Kosovo, so it has no right to interrupt with Kosovo's internal affairs.

Personally, we think that although Kosovo is just a small country, it can bring an impact to others by inspiring other small countries to fight for independence. We should say that we are also inspired by Kosovo, so we are going to fight for independence from Pian's unfair ruling yeahh!

As a conclusion, we would like to say that Kosovo's independence will yield very good results for both the Kosovars and also the Muslim community. We are also happy to announce that through extensive research, it is found that Kosovar girls are terrifically hot.

But not as hot as Miss Fisha, of course.

True story.

The Republic of Kosovo

Kosovo is a republic country  which has a de facto independancy and is located in the south east side of Europe. Before this, Kosovo was a province in Serbia under the administration of  the United Nations. The heart of Kosovo is in Pristina. The independency of Kosovo was acknowledge by Albania, US, France and Turkey. On the contrary Russia and Serbia did not agree.

The International Court of Justice delivered its advisory opinion on 22 July 2010 and concluded that the declaration of independence of Kosovo "did not violate any applicable rule of international law".

International law specialists noted that, although the ICJ (International court of justice) decided Kosovo’s declaration was legal. Kosovo’s declaration of independence also meant Kosovo, as a state, was a legitimate internationally recognized nation. As a result of this ruling, both Kosovars and Serbs can find some grounds to declare a victory of some sort in the long-running dispute.

Serbs, for whom Kosovo is an ancestral homeland and the site of many important Serbian Orthodox churches and monasteries, insist that the area remain under Serbian sovereignty. Broader opposition to separating Kosovo from Serbia stems from concern about the potential precedent that would be set by redrawing boundaries along ethnic lines and the likely impact this move would have on the integrity of the borders of Macedonia, Montenegro, and Bosnia.

Ethnicity
Nevertheless, harsh realities on the ground make independence for Kosovo the only viable option. In the current state of unstability, relations between the Albanian majority, which is mostly Muslim, and the Serbian minority, which is mostly Orthodox Christian, have reached the boiling point. The Albanian leadership in Pristina, which governs Kosovo in an uneasy partnership with UN authorities, wants nothing to do with Belgrade. Kosovo has already left Serbia's orbit. In spirit as well as fact, multi-ethnic society is nowhere to be found.

In a meeting with Kosovo prime minister Hashim Thaci, American vice president Joe Biden “reaffirmed the United States' full support for an independent, democratic, whole and multi-ethnic Kosovo whose future lies firmly within European and Euro-Atlantic institutions”.

Money
Thaci also received good news from the International Monetary Fund when the IMF approved a loan package of $140 million for infrastructure construction and reconstruction, in addition to nearly twice that amount already available from the World Bank and the European Commission.
() In explaining the Serb position, President Boris Tadic added, “If the ICJ opinion establishes a new principle, an entire process of creating new states would open throughout the world, something that would destabilize many regions of the world.”

We also think that the independancy of Kosovo will give inspiration to other small regions of the world to fight for their independency. Whereas the original country, like Kosovo before this was under Serbia as the main country will become unsatisfied with the separation and independency of the state.

Now that they have independency, they are free from outside control and thus, manage their own country.

" The true character of liberty is independence, maintained by force. " ~ Voltaire

The Review About Kosovo

Salam everyone ! First of all, this blog assignment had made us to think more about the world politics.

On 17 February 2008, Kosovo had become the first Muslim country at the Europe. In other words, Kosovo had achieved their independence from the Serbia which is the Russian without any war happen

When Kosovo was under the Serbia's government, the citizens was being tortured by the Serbia's army. They had a long journey, full of tears and bloodshed in order to achieve their freedom and at the end Kosovo can stand by their own feet without the overshadowed of the Serbia.

However, the freedom of the Kosovo has made many speculation about this matter. The Serbia worry about the freedom of the Kosovo because they think that maybe their other colonies will ask the same thing. From the situation. we can conclude that Kosovo have the right thing to ask the independence because majority all the citizens want it for a long time

But in the other hand, the separation of Kosovo and Serbia is all about the sovereignty of the Serbia. By our logical thinking, which country would separate its colonies and its sovereignty will be small than before? No one right?

By our opinion, the Kosovo have the right thing to ask the indenpendence because it was the citizens requirements. The Serbia government should give it in order to fullfill their needs.

However, the separation of the Kosovo and Serbia will give an impact to itself. The Serbia feel worry about this matter because it is not imposible for the other colonies under the Serbia's government will ask the same thing. Indirectly, the sovereignty and area of the Serbia will become limited or smaller that before.

That was our opinion ! :D

Happy blogging!

Group 2 kmbali lagi:D

Assalamualaikum:)
hello everybody..
sure excited gle kan nk bca post ktorg kali ni.haha.
so! let's enjoy!

In nature, before any government was create man was a nation onto himself. He was free to do whatever he pleased. However, this meant that he had to protect his own property from the whims of everyone else. Thus, each man was his own police judge and jury which was very taxing on his time and energy.Because of this our government can only derive it's legitimacy from the duty to protect it citizen's property in both.

So,the reasons why we are learning STATES are..firstly,under topic's of THE PROTECTION OF LIFE,LIMB AND PROPERTY FROM INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL THREATS IS THE FUNDAMENTAL PURPOSE OF ANY LEGITIMATE GOVERNMENT.Thus,we have discovered the purpose of the state.Nowadays,we turn away from these ideals at every step and we let the government become involved in every aspects of our life..pick up an idioms: THE PURPOSE OF THE STATE IS NOT TO BE YOUR BIG BROTHER,IT IS TO PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY..

Next, another purposes of state is to ESTABLISH THE PROSPERITY AND STABILITY OF THE PEOPLE.Meaning,it can provide economic security, development and social welfare service for the people such as employment and livelihood necessities..

That's all from us..see you later:) bye..

THE PURPOSE OF THE STATE

Assalamualaikum to miss fisha. We are from group 5B want to elaborate the purpose of the state.

1.Our life will be more civilized

-Our country can take care of its own citizen through law. This will make the citizen become

civilived.Same with the other country, they have their own laws that can make their citizen

life become more systemic and civilived.

2.We can voice out our opinion, comment, through our Prime Minister to the other country.

-At the PBB,Asean or OIC,our PM can be their intermediary in voicing our opinion to

the other's PM to be discussed.

3.Our life will be more systematic without any conflicts and war.

-We will respect any opinion from each other. If there were no system in life,it shall cause a

wreak-havoc.

The Purpose of State

What is the purpose of State? That we gonna tell you in this entry :D Hope you all will understand it :)

Before that, we going to tell you what is State. State is the circumstances or condition of a being or thing at any given time - Based on Accurate & Reliable Dictionary

The purpose of the State is the development of the nation. In order to do so, it must concrete economic plans, trade and commerce and peaceful relations with other states. It has to undertake some public works such as roads, bridges, canals and harbours and to maintain some public institutions. It must be the objective of the state to build a good image of the nation in the globe

Besides, the purpose of the State is responsible for providing economic security to the people. A citizen has the right to work, right to an adequate wage and right to reasonable hours to work. It is the duty of the state to provide its citizens these opportunities and prepare every citizen through the means of education to live well

That's all. Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuu ! :D

Purposes of the state

Before the legitimate government exist, man was a nation unto himself. To reduce his responsibility, he then formed a centralized power with the others. They agreed to give up the sole right on part of their property. Thus, government exists is not to be your big brother, but to protect your property. This opinion is solely based on John Locke's ideas of government.

Not that just all, government also exist to align the system to suit and control the people in each side of sociology, politic and economy. Human is dynamic being that has different ideas, thus leading to different law and custom, -- and government, is a simply become the solution, play its part as a legitimate solver to any agreement-disagreement with one another.

analogy : You and your brother are having conflict among both of you. You, and you brother agree to let your parents helping you all in solving this matter. Get what I mean ? Yeah, parents are like goverment. ;)

two purposes of state...

firstly, we want to give our first point of the purpose..state made our environment become peace and more stabil which offering security to the population from internal and external threats..as an example, our country has its own way to treat the threat from spreading like Internal Security Act (ISA) for the internal threat...secondly..element of state is establishing of prosperity and stability of the people, to provide economic security , development and social welfare service for the people..for the example, employment of the people come out with the factorial industry in the country and livelihood necessities like Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat...we proud to be Malaysian people because our country provide all the opportunities that we should have in our life...
assalamualaikum.....

For this entry,we would like to talk about purpose of state,
in our opinion,if theres no gov,no justice can be done..it's because gov have the legal right to order and makes law...
Besides, purpose of state is welfare service..this can be seen by the way gov give subsidy, scholarship, public infrastructure such as public phone, gov hospital, public transport and so on..
because we do this last minute,so its simply and easy for you to comment our blog.hu3..(^___^)

This is how we feel

LEGITIMACY. Imagine that we are now becomes a leader. Thus, we have our own power to order someone to make work. We also have own power to order someone to make a work. We also has our own follower’s must follow all the order that we have said.

We also feel independent. This is because our follower’s will depend on us. we are such a role model to them. They will look at our images, and our behaviour .

We also will be proud because we will have our own government. The build of legitimacy are from the good government. The build of legitimacy are from the good government which are from the good economy, we also proud because we have our own national symbols for the government such flag, motto and own trademark.

SOVEREIGNTY. We feel that have a super power that another people count take any action to use. When we give an order to them, they must follow all the actions. Hehehe….

We also feel great because the followers have to follow our rules. They cannot complaint anything about our rules. They have to follow sincerely. Wakakaka….

We also happy because we can do anything that we want to do. There is no one can take any actions to us. This is because they do not have power and because our own sovereignty.

AUTHORITY. When we have an authority, everyone will respect us. This situation will make us feel respected, appreciated get the loyalty from the followers.

We also feel proud because the people accepted our decision or ordery without any force and complaints.

SOVEREIGNTY, LEGITIMACY AND AUTHORITY

Assalamualaikum everyone......

what we feel about sovereignty, legitimacy and authority..? we want to discuss it overally,,, we've not too agreed with sovereignty use in Malaysia for the king... we think we should use absolute monarch for the kings.... nowadays, king just like a puppet... useless... otherwise we still need to respect them even they don't manage this country........

Miss Fisha:
I think you're still confuse with all the concepts. Sovereignty is to illustrate the supremacy. Be it absolute or constitutional monarch, the King still posses the same sovereignty -- what's the different is lies on the degree of supremacy.

"King just like a puppet?" -- it is a matter of perception because the King still has power to over rule some of collective decisions made by the government. Perak and Terengganu cases? Ringing any bell?

LEGITIMACY....????? for our country, the leader gain the legitimacy by time... after we achieve independence, we still the same government because peoples more trust the old one than the others... besides, we also use the leader from the winner government after the election, not to other countries that they've choose the president just like USA and Indonesia...

Doesn't really explained the 'power' of legitimacy.

AUTHORITY.....,,,,,,, mmmmmm!!!!!!!!........ authority is how someone gonna obtain his/her power( if we not mistake,, forgive us if it's wrong.) Each leaders have their authority by using different ways... Tun Dr. Mahathir gain his authority by his charismatics,, he brave to do anything that he think possibly right... compare to Datuk Seri Najib,,,, he gain the authority by cultivate peoples love to him... such as he was decreasing the petrol price... he also inspired the 1Malaysia campaign... even we don't know what it's for,,, but we still get enjoy the campaign such 1Malaysia futsal competition and 1Malaysia clinic.. besides that,, he also have the leadership blood.. he heritage the leadership from his father, Late Tun Abdul Razak also the our ex-prime minister...... so.. that 's all from us,,, sorry because we late.........;(

Leadership blood? Such a new term you coined out. Anyway, I doubted about it ... =p

feel about sovereignty, authority and legitimacy

Assalamualaikum...

straight to do point. we unsatisfied about sovereignty because we think that in our country, there should not had different in status between royal family and people.for example when they did something wrong their fault were hidden but when common people did our fault we show to the public. it is not fair because it seem violate the other human right. as a human it should fit the same. but there's nothing we can do because we are only the common people.

Miss Fisha:
Honey ... that's why we discussing sovereignty here - the concept that differentiate all of us. Sovereignty exist because the differences. Who set out the differences? Blame it on your ancestors! Who wants to be different? [but, I think I do!] -- to make you feel better, here's something for you: Everybody is born differently, don't die a copy -- note the differences? =p

authority is good for all the people because the people always obey what is their leader said.this can avoid war between ourselves.beside that. authority make the leader and people close because people free to express opinion.other than that, authority make our country safe.

=)

we agreed with legitimacy because that are proven by our government now their administration our country very well since we are get freedom from British.

Then how you explain the legitimacy in relation of getting independence from the British?

Group 2 nak share jugak;)

Assalamualaikum.hye Miss Fisha:)

So,yesterday..Miss Fisha gave us an assignment on how we feel about 3 points of POWER which are, legitimacy, authority and sovereignity.

1st of all,I would like to compliment on how Miss Fisha looked yesterday, which was mesmerizing.true story;)

So,Legitimacy, factually it is how a government sustains it's power. There are several ways to do this, mainly which the aid of time, sounds structure and the effectiveness of their leadership. In our opinion,it is unfair for the people to think that a new government is not as good as an old one.Sometimes, changes are crucial to follow the changes in time.Besides, there is no harm in trying.Just like when we first met miss fisha,we thought she was fierce, but when we tried to undrstnd her,she turned to be nice lctrr ever.True story miss;)

Next,Sovereignity which means 'daulat' in malay. We feel that it is good and important as it ensures peace within the country.Having our own sovereignity, builds patriotism in one's self. Moreover,it rids of ewternal forces from threatening us that we can sleep soundly at night, whch I believe is Miss Fisha beauty secret, right? True story;)

Finally,Authority.By definition,it means one's ability to gain other's respect and loyalty. We feel that it is fair to have authority as we,as the people choose our own leaders. Therefore,we are responsible at choosing the right leader. The problem comes when the people with authority abuses his power and putting the person off his power will be more difficult. But our group believes in miss fisha's teachng, she is the best.true story;)

You know,Arif's uncle once said "with great power, comes great rensponsibility." Power should be used for people, not against them.Power is a strong force, therefore we should use it carefully.Power is also voltage squared over resistance which is a physic formula.Ohm's law.

That's all for now miss.bye.salam..:)

On legitimacy, authority, and sovereignity.

Legitimacy.
We took a long time in trying to understand the real meaning of legitimacy. We’ve actually even need to open the dictionary ‘Collins Cobuild’ to look out its meaning.
‘Legitimacy’  (nouns) : something is acceptable according to the law.
Digging more into every ways to gain legitimacy, seems like government shall not lived by approval from the citizens itself. What sort of government that don’t have any support from its citizens? Government, albeit its corruption or any conflicts that exist in Malaysia, shall ever not live – without the concerns by the citizens itself – that is us.

My respond:
Why don't the government shall not lived by approval from the citizens itself? What about the government that come into power through coup de tat? They don't necessarily need to seek approval from people, but force people to accept them. For Malaysian government case, I think to pick the lesser between two evils is more appropriate =p

Take one example, government, without enough resources, just say it money, shall having a problem in managing one community or peoples. Go far away from this, then you’ll realize that human only needs what have been stated in Maslow’s hierarchy ( foods, habitat, sex, and etc. ). Approval. Approval right? Well, just in case we do not want Malaysian government shall be called as regime. This country, democracy and liberty are filled into it, in avoidance to become dictatorial leadership.

Err .. .what this has to do with legitimacy? And, I think, in the name of legitimacy, then the government did what they do ... the people? With the apathetic attitudes? Blerghhh ... gimme a break!
Ironically, take a deep look around you, and you will realize that people does not want the good government in this country, they only want the government that can provide them with a good place, good food, and yeah, good fat money on their pockets. They don’t care about the integrity, they don’t care about the policy, they’re just care about their money. Bad society will produce a bad leader. Changing our attitudes is not late yet. Trust us my friends. ;)

Uuuu .. such a strong words you used. How would you spell the integrity of government? And, "Bad society will produce a bad leader" is another implied confession? Irony? I'd say that.

Authority.
At first we actually think that we’ve grasp the definition of authority, but then again – when it comes to chapter 2, based on Roskin’s quote ,
“ Authority is an individual’s ability to gain respect or loyalty from people.”
How can we understand that when we already learn that the concept of respect or loyalty is actually related to INFLUENCE ?
Taking too seriously we think, on that definition – somehow we need to realize that there is always, always the meaning of these three things, ( power, authority, influence ) shall interchangeably used.
This remind us, about the simple example to describe. Take an armed robber, a teacher and a businessman.  Respectively, in this case, you shall quickly realize that armed robber is the symbol of real power, the teacher is the symbol of authority and thus, businessman, is to the influence. When you are being robbed, like it or not – they are the one who have a greater force or coercion upon you, shall have the real power. Differs to the idea of authority, authority deals with law enforcement. Legally generated. Legally enforced. Legally executed. It’s all about playing with law and policies. So what about businessman ? Well, after all, businessman cannot force you to buy his product right ? Nor they don’t have any law with them that states that it is compulsory to us to buy his product right ? So what they actually trying to do,  is, indirectly, persuading you to buy it. Owh yes, persuasive way. That’s what we call influence. But don’t limit this three terms into this concept only. Real power doesn’t mean that it only about force and coercion. Generally, when it comes to ‘power’, its subset is only real power, authority, and influence. Aih… just don’t care too much about the definition, pays more to the pragmatic things in this political science. We don’t bother theories too much, what we need is just a practical way to solve any issues related to this human matter.
Yeah ... different people have different opinions ... so does the definition. But, to play safe, just stick to those definitions given, OK?

Sovereignity.
Talk about sovereignity, we still on confusion of supreme power versus constitutional monarchy. Lets say that there is a king, whom have unlimited power – now that’s what we call the supreme power. We don’t call it as supreme if it is limited and the king cannot doing anything freely don’t we?
Thinking again - and just listened to what our lecturer have said, “We call it supreme because based on the historical data.”
*then she pointed out once upon a time about the king that slash the woman stomach that had eaten the a piece of a jackfruit without his permission*,
the king always has the unlimited power. Supreme because in this historical context. That’s all. Historical terms limit.
After all, this is just – simply a view of some novice. Don’t take these too seriously, otherwise, you might be confused. Will you?  ;)

[Topic] How Do We Feel About Authority, Legitimacy & Sovereignty?

Assalamualaikum and good afternoon to all of you !
Hehe :D
I think our group is the first one who submit this assignment. Hehe :D Drum roll please ! Thank you. Hehe :D

Straight to the point, our Political Science lecturer, Miss Fisha had given our first assignment through blogger. She asked us to give our opinion on how do we feel about the Authority, Legitimacy and Sovereignty. So here there are ! :D

According to the facts, Authority is where the leader gave right to give command and his or her action is voluntarily accepted by the people. But sometimes, certain people accept the leader's command because they have to.

We think that the ordinary people like us who does not have the authority should be given the chance to point out our opinion on certain things. The government had given all the facilities to us but are all the facilities that are provided is free? Exactly No !

All the facilities must be paid. Its about the money talk. Based on my own experience, last week, I went to Kuala Terengganu. When I want to park my car, I have to paid the parking charge. If we went to the public toilet, we also have to pay for it. All the taxes must be paid before the dateline. If not, we will be given the fine.

See? We have to spend our money for the things that we actually should not. So in this case, the citizens should be given the authority to speak out our opinion on certain things and the government should consider our opinion.

Based on the Wikipedia, Legitimacy is the popular acceptance of a governing law. But on our understandings, Legitimacy is about the position of one's leader. We think that to make a clear view about the acceptance of the citizens about the leadership of one's legitimated leader, we should have one platform to show our opinion about the leader.

By having the legitimate power, it doesnt mean that the leader use their power excellently. For example, certain of the people disagree with the 1Malaysia because in education, the percentage of election for the non-Malay students in univercity have been increased.

When this matter keep on going, the oppurtinity of Malay students is limited. Eventhough the percent for non-Malay students is small, the Malay students have to compete with them and the others Malay

Sovereignty is defined as supreme power and no one can disobey the leader. The leader can do whatever he or she want. We think the sovereignty should not given 100% to the leader. This is due to the freedom to the leader to do what they want without thinking about the other people.
Not all the leader's command should be followed by the citizens. Sometimes, the leader's command had given trouble to the citizens. I think everyone has experience on this situation ; the citizens have to give the space to Sultan when the Sultan is passing by the road. The citizens have to wait for a long time and certain of their works are disturbed. If we were in urgent, we have to sacrife our time for the Sultan.

In the nutshell, the power that had given to the leader should be practised in the right path. If not, the people will live in chaos. The government sholud think twicely and consider the citizen's demand to make sure the state will be peaceful and blessed. Alhamdulillah ~ :D
